Van Hire Putney
All you need to know about hiring a van in Putney
Described as 'one of the pleasantest of the London suburbs' in a 1903 guidebook, there is so much more to Putney than just being a district in southwest London.
Bathed in history, Putney appeared in the Doomsday book in 1086 and is cited by other notable writers and historians throughout history, such as Samuel Pepys and John Locke. Thomas Cromwell was born here. Putney Heath was infamous as a popular duelling ground back in the 17 and 1800s. 1729 saw Putney become the first location for a bridge over the Thames in central London after London Bridge, which had been the only bridge in the area since the days of Londinium.
Putney also has an exciting sporting history. The village green at the corner of Wildcroft and Telegraph Roads is home to Roehampton Cricket Club, established in 1842 and is one of the oldest cricket teams in London. Putney also benefits from its riverside location, meaning it's the perfect place for rowing and has been an important centre for the sport since the second half of the 19th century. It's also been the starting place for the famed Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race since 1845.
Driving in Putney is much the same as driving in many London Boroughs. Traffic can get busy at peak times, especially across the bridge and Putney Hill. It's also worth checking traffic is running normally on Hammersmith bridge if you're heading in the direction of Putney. When Hammersmith bridge is closed, this has a huge knock-on effect on traffic levels on Putney bridge and in either direction, so always worth a look before setting off.
As of October 2021, Transport for London (TfL) expanded the Ultra Low Emission Zone to extend up to (but not including) the North and South Circular roads (A205 and A406). This means that areas in Putney are now included in the zone, so you need to be aware as you're driving and check to see if your vehicle is subject to a daily charge. There are also a small number of postcodes that cross the zone boundary. You can check a postcode online to see if it falls within the ULEZ, but it's worth keeping an eye out for ULEZ boundary signs on the street.
Van hire in Putney
With an estimated 5 million van rentals in the UK every year, it's clear that there are many occasions when you may need to look at renting a van. So whether you want one to move your daughter into the University of Roehampton or you need a workhorse to get you to and from your plumbing jobs every day – we can help. Nationwide Hire has vans of all sizes for many uses and is here to help you.
Business van hire in Putney
Nationwide Hire support companies in and around Putney by supplying self-drive vans as and when required. So, whether a van is needed ad-hoc or as an extra for the fleet, we've got you covered.
Smaller vans such as the Transit or Caddy are an excellent choice for deliveries and tradespeople such as plumbers and electricians and have plenty of space for a sizeable load. Vans of this size start from around £101.98 for a one day hire.
We also have many larger, more specialised vans available such as Sprinters, Tipper Transits, Cherry Pickers and Crew vans. These can be hired by the day or for longer depending on availability, with discounts on some advanced bookings.
If you need a Fridge or Freezer van for a temperature-controlled cargo, our prices start from as little as £127.71 per day. We can also accommodate special requests like standby sockets and dual compartments if required.
Flexible hire options are available on all our vehicles, so whether you need a van for a day, a month or even longer can help. We also offer a 10% discount on the rental to business customers if insured using a current company policy and a FREE drop off and pick-up service where possible.
Private van hire in Putney
Vans are one of the most popular vehicles hired for self-drive, especially when it comes to house moves and clearances. We hire out our vans on a day-by-day basis, for a minimum of 24 hours, and most can be driven on a standard UK licence.
If you are moving to Putney, we would recommend the Luton Van. Easily one of the best vehicles for the job, they are not only spacious, but many come with a tail lift, making it easier to load bulkier items. However, for smaller house moves, a Transit van still provides the space you need to get the job done and is a better option if it's the first time driving a vehicle of this type.
How we can help with van hire in Putney
Whether you are looking for self-drive hire for business or personal use, our team is always on hand to answer questions, make suggestions or offer advice if required. When you collect the vehicle, we will take you through any checks, help familiarise yourself with the vehicle, and advise any information you need. We recommend checking height restrictions for parking and any payload restrictions for the vehicle. It is a legal requirement to monitor the load's weight, and police can issue penalties should these limits be exceeded.
